Governor Umaru Bago inaugurates upgraded IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna
MINNA, Nigeria – Niger State Governor Umaru Bago inaugurates upgraded facilities at the IBB Specialist Hospital, declaring that the expansion will significantly reduce outbound medical tourism and strengthen specialised healthcare delivery in the state.
Speaking on Monday in Minna, the governor says the hospital now boasts newly constructed male and female cabin wards, a portacabin wing, a fully equipped Accident and Emergency Unit, and a modern radiodiagnostic department.
The facility is also fitted with a renal dialysis centre, CT scan, mammography, X-ray and ECG services, alongside a state-of-the-art surgical theatre capable of handling complex procedures.
“This administration remains committed to quality healthcare,” Bago says. “We have completed 20 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres and will build another 110 across the state.”
He discloses that 1,500 health workers have already been recruited, while 22 general hospitals are undergoing revitalisation. According to him, brain and spinal surgeries, as well as knee replacements, are now successfully performed at the hospital.
The governor further reveals partnerships with Egyptian and Russian medical institutions, noting that between 20 and 50 Egyptian doctors are expected monthly for specialised services and local capacity building.
To improve rural access, Bago announces plans to deploy 250 telemedicine machines across the state’s 25 local government areas, alongside a two-megawatt solar power system for the hospital.
He adds that a new employment portal will expand the state’s health workforce to 5,000, offering competitive incentives to attract skilled professionals.
