ADO-EKITI, Nigeria – Operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps arrest five suspected gunmen in Ekiti following intelligence reports from residents, recovering weapons and charms shortly after the suspects enter the state.
The corps’ Communications Officer, Adeleye Adewale, confirms that the arrests occur on Wednesday at Itawure in Ekiti West Local Government Area. He says the suspects are intercepted immediately after alighting from a vehicle at a motor park along Itawure Road.
“Residents alerted us when the suspects arrived,” Adewale says. “Our operatives moved swiftly, arrested all five and recovered dangerous weapons.”
Recovered items include two locally made guns, an axe, a dagger, two dogs, five mobile phones and assorted charms. The suspects — identified as Abdulahi Makana, Shuaba Ibrahim, Adamu Muhammed, Shlibu Umar and Aruna Yahaya — reportedly claim to be farmers but fail to provide proof.
Adewale says the suspects and exhibits are handed over to the Nigeria Police Force in Ekiti West for further investigation.
Community leaders praise the rapid response, describing it as a boost to public safety amid rising concerns over armed criminal movements across state borders.
