Maiduguri, Nigeria – Civilian casualties are reported after a Nigerian Air Force airstrike hits a busy market near the Borno–Yobe border during an operation targeting insurgents.
The incident occurs at Jilli Market in Yobe State, a major trading hub frequented by residents from surrounding communities.
Sources say the strike targets suspected Boko Haram fighters believed to be operating in the area.
“The insurgents often come to collect levies and supplies,” a local resident says. “At least 10 people were killed, while several others were injured.”
The casualty figure remains unconfirmed, with victims evacuated to hospitals in Giedam and Damaturu.
Security analysts note the challenges of distinguishing between civilians and combatants in densely populated areas.
As of press time, the Nigerian Air Force has not issued an official statement.
The incident raises renewed concerns over civilian safety in conflict zones where military operations intersect with populated communities.
