ABUJA, Nigeria – Several high-activity districts in Abuja were scheduled to experience a six-hour electricity outage on Wednesday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carried out preventive maintenance on critical transmission infrastructure.
TCN said the outage would run from 10am to 4pm to enable its technical teams to service a 100MVA power transformer and associated switchgear at the Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
The affected areas include Wuse Zones 1–7, Sheraton Hotel, Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and surrounding communities.
TCN said the maintenance would temporarily prevent the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from taking power supply to customers in the affected areas.
The intervention is part of preventive maintenance aimed at reducing the risk of equipment failure and improving the reliability of electricity transmission in the Federal Capital Territory.
“Consequently, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take power supply to customers in Wuse Zones 1–7, Sheraton Hotel, Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and environs during the exercise,” TCN said.
The affected districts contain major commercial and business establishments, including hotels, offices, shopping centres and other businesses that rely on regular electricity supply.
TCN said the temporary disruption was necessary to allow engineers to carry out maintenance work on the transformer and associated equipment.
The company said such interventions were aimed at strengthening the transmission network and improving system reliability.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas were advised to make alternative arrangements for electricity during the maintenance period.
