LAGOS, Nigeria – The Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration says Lagos Fresh Food Hubs have generated more than ₦3.8 billion in transactions as the state intensifies efforts to modernise food distribution and strengthen agro-produce markets across Lagos.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya, disclosed the figures on Friday during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
According to Olusanya, the Lagos Fresh Food Hub in Idi-Oro, Mushin, has improved food aggregation, enhanced direct farmer-to-market access and expanded economic opportunities for traders and logistics operators.
“The Fresh Food Hub at Idi-Oro, Mushin, has already demonstrated the value of structured market infrastructure by improving food aggregation, supporting direct farmer-to-market linkages, creating jobs and enabling better produce handling,” she said.
The commissioner revealed that the initiative earlier recorded over ₦2.6 billion in transactions before adding another ₦1.2 billion from 76 market days held between May 2025 and the present period.
She said more than 850 vendors have registered under the programme, while over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs have emerged from trading, transportation, food handling and supply-chain activities.
Olusanya noted that the project is reducing post-harvest losses and improving food distribution efficiency across the state.
To expand the initiative, the Lagos State Government is constructing additional mid-level agro-produce hubs in several locations. She confirmed that the Abijo hub was virtually commissioned by Bola Ahmed Tinubu in April 2026, while another facility in Agege is nearing completion.
Construction is also ongoing in Opebi, Ikorodu and Bombata, with more hubs planned for Apapa, Festac and the Lekki corridor as part of efforts to stabilise food supply and improve access to affordable food.
