ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Government moves to strengthen police capacity with plans for a new southern campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Abeokuta.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa on Monday says the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s security reform agenda focused on improved training and infrastructure.
He explains that the National Universities Commission will conduct resource verification ahead of the academy’s planned take-off between September and November 2026.
The government also plans to upgrade over 40 police colleges into specialised monotechnics offering practical, skills-based programmes.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun says education is key to modern policing and improved operational efficiency.
Three committees are established to oversee infrastructure, capacity development and academic accreditation for the reforms.
