Nigeria House of Representatives
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s House of Representatives has ordered urgent safety upgrades on two major Kaduna Road projects, warning that the highways have become “death corridors” due to the absence of pedestrian infrastructure.
Lawmakers passed the resolution after Hussaini Mohammed Jallo raised concerns over recurring fatalities along the Kaduna Eastern Bye-Pass and Kaduna–Zaria Highway.
Communities including Rigasa, Mando, Rigachikun and Jaji have been effectively split by the construction, forcing residents, traders and students to cross dangerous traffic routes without safe passage.
The House directed the Federal Ministry of Works to redesign the projects to include pedestrian bridges and flyovers, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Government.
It also tasked the Federal Road Safety Corps to launch awareness campaigns and introduce temporary safety measures.
Committees on Works and Legislative Compliance were given four weeks to assess the sites and report back.
In a separate motion, lawmakers called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to restore constituencies in three Benue local government areas, warning that previous boundary changes had reduced representation ahead of the 2027 elections.
