GUSAU, Nigeria – Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has approved ₦3.76 billion for emergency rehabilitation of the Gusau Water Supply Scheme, in a move to restore failing water access across the state capital.
The approval, granted during a State Executive Council meeting, follows mounting concerns over the deteriorating condition of the water infrastructure serving Gusau residents.
Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mahmud Muhammad Dantawasa, confirmed the decision, stating that the funds—₦3,759,931,812.50—were already captured in the state’s 2026 Appropriation Law.
The intervention will focus on restoring production capacity and overhauling the distribution network, as authorities move to address what officials describe as a growing public health and infrastructure challenge.
“The state government has prioritised this project as part of its commitment to improving the quality of life of citizens,” the statement read.
Once completed, operational control of the facility will be transferred to the Zamfara State Water Corporation, which will oversee maintenance and long-term service delivery.
Officials urged residents to cooperate during the rehabilitation process, assuring that the project is aimed at ensuring sustainable access to clean water in the state capital.
