CALABAR, Nigeria – Cross River State dismisses claims of a fresh COVID-19 outbreak, insisting only one confirmed case exists as lawmakers move to investigate the situation.
Health Commissioner Dr. Henry Ayuk on Thursday says reports suggesting 10 new symptomatic cases are misleading.
“There are no additional confirmed cases,” he states.
He explains that the individuals referenced are contacts of the confirmed case identified through routine tracing, not infected persons.
Authorities say the contacts remain under precautionary monitoring and home isolation.
“They are neither confirmed nor suspected cases,” Ayuk adds.
Meanwhile, Senate President Godswill Akpabio directs the Senate Committee on Health to probe the reports and assess preparedness.
Officials urge the public to remain calm but vigilant, maintaining adherence to health guidelines.
The development highlights ongoing sensitivity around COVID-19 surveillance as global health risks persist.
