LAGOS, Nigeria – A dispatch rider dies Tuesday after a heavy-duty truck collides with his motorcycle on Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, authorities confirm.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says the rider dies instantly from the impact, highlighting growing risks faced by commercial motorcyclists on major highways.
“The devastating impact resulted in the immediate loss of the rider’s life,” LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq says.
Officials quickly cordon off the area to prevent secondary accidents in the high-traffic corridor.
The victim’s remains are handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps, while police from Alausa provide security during evacuation.
Authorities later clear the wreckage, restoring normal traffic flow.
LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki extends condolences to the victim’s family and calls for stricter compliance with road safety regulations.
“We remain committed to strengthening advocacy and collaboration to reduce road fatalities,” he says.
The incident comes less than 24 hours after another dispatch rider is killed in a separate crash, intensifying concerns over rider safety and enforcement gaps in Lagos.
