NASARAWA, Nigeria – At least 11 people are killed and dozens of homes destroyed after a violent clash erupts between communities in Nasarawa State, authorities confirm.
The Nasarawa State Police Command says the attack occurred in the early hours of Friday in Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities, leaving about 50 houses razed.
Police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel says the violence is triggered by a suspected reprisal over the killing of two individuals.
“In the course of the attack, 11 persons were killed, while about 50 houses were burnt,” he states.
Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed visits the affected areas, expressing concern over the scale of destruction and loss of life.
Security forces launch a manhunt for the attackers, deploying tactical teams and investigators to restore order.
Authorities also reinforce security in collaboration with the military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to prevent further violence.
Residents, however, allege the attackers are suspected armed groups who had been sighted before the incident without intervention.
“It is becoming unbearable. People are living in fear and fleeing their homes,” one resident says.
The communities, known for mining and trade, have faced recurring attacks in recent months, raising concerns ahead of the farming season.
