DUTSE, Nigeria – Nigerian troops repel insurgents and rescue more than 150 civilians during a failed mass abduction attempt in the Northeast.
The military says fighters linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP attacked along the Buratai–Kamuya axis before being overpowered by forces under Operation HADIN KAI.
Spokesman Sani Uba on Monday says surveillance detects abductors loading victims into vehicles, triggering a rapid response.
“A Quick Response Force was deployed, forcing the insurgents to abandon civilians and vehicles,” he says. Troops Foil Mass Abduction, Rescue 150 Civilians in Northeast Nigeria
All rescued victims are moved to safety for reunification with families.
However, five soldiers sustained severe injuries after hitting an improvised explosive device during pursuit operations.
The military says the operation highlights its “high level of vigilance” as communities brace for the Easter period.
