ABUJA, Nigeria – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has installed a new 300MVA power transformer at its Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja to strengthen electricity supply across the Federal Capital Territory, although residents in some districts will experience a brief power outage during the final stage of the upgrade.
TCN announced that engineers will energise the newly installed 300MVA 330/132/33kV transformer on Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., temporarily reducing bulk electricity supply to selected areas served by the substation.
The company said the infrastructure upgrade forms part of its ongoing investment in expanding transmission capacity, improving grid reliability and meeting growing electricity demand in Abuja.
According to TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the temporary interruption will affect only a limited number of customers supplied through the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
“The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to offtake power for onward distribution to Maitama, Mpape and parts of Jahi only for the stated period,” Mbah said.
Mbah apologised for the temporary inconvenience to customers, stressing that the brief outage is necessary to ensure the safe energisation of the new equipment.
Industry experts say investments in transmission infrastructure remain essential to improving electricity delivery, reducing system bottlenecks and ensuring that generated power reaches electricity distribution companies for onward supply to homes and businesses.
