ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s gas minister urges African nations to prioritise action over rhetoric to tackle energy poverty.
Speaking at a regional roundtable in Abuja on Monday, Minister Ekperikpe Ekpo says Africa holds vast gas reserves yet millions remain without electricity.
“This is not a question of resource availability, but one of coordination and collective action,” he says.
Ekpo outlines four priorities: integrated gas markets, expanded gas-to-power projects, increased investment, and harmonised regulations.
He highlights projects such as the West African Gas Pipeline and Nigeria–Morocco Gas Pipeline as steps toward regional integration.
The minister describes natural gas as Africa’s “transition fuel,” urging policies tailored to the continent’s development needs.
