GOMBE, Nigeria – The Federal Fire Service is urging residents in Gombe to adopt strict safety measures ahead of Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, warning of increased fire risks during festive periods.
In a statement on Thursday, the State Controller, Suleiman Suleiman says heightened domestic and commercial activities often lead to a surge in fire incidents.
“Festive periods require extra vigilance to prevent avoidable emergencies,” he says.
Residents are advised to handle gas cylinders carefully, avoid overloading electrical sockets, and never leave cooking unattended.
The agency also stresses that generators should be operated outdoors in well-ventilated areas, while flammable materials must be stored safely.
Parents are urged to monitor children during gatherings, and motorists warned against blocking access routes for emergency responders.
Authorities highlight the importance of proper ventilation and hydration amid rising temperatures.
Suleiman calls for prompt reporting of fire incidents via emergency number 112.
He assures residents of the agency’s readiness, emphasising that safety remains a shared responsibility.
