ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu departs Abuja for a state visit to Turkey, signalling Nigeria’s push to strengthen strategic partnerships across security, trade and innovation.
The visit, scheduled for Monday, January 26, aims to deepen bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Republic of Turkey, according to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga on Sunday.
Talks during the visit focus on security, education, social development, aviation, innovation and defence cooperation, building on diplomatic momentum following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Nigeria in 2021.
Senior officials from both countries are expected to hold high-level political and economic engagements, with several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) set to be signed. The agreements cover energy, scientific research, military collaboration, media, technical cooperation and protocol.
A Nigeria–Turkey business forum will also take place, bringing together investors from both countries to explore opportunities in trade, finance and infrastructure.
Members of Tinubu’s delegation include Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Defence Minister Christopher Musa (rtd), National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and NIA Director-General Mohammed Mohammed, among others.
Onanuga says the visit underscores Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships for economic growth and regional security.
President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the conclusion of the diplomatic engagements.
