LAGOS, Nigeria – Police recover suspected human body parts during a stop-and-search operation along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, heightening concerns over ritual-related crimes.
Operatives of the Federal Highway Patrol intercept a commercial vehicle near the Guru Maharaji Village axis and discover a red cloth containing bones and other suspicious items concealed among passengers’ luggage.
In a statement on Sunday, the Oyo State Police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade says the vehicle, travelling from Lagos to Osogbo, is stopped during a routine operation.
“A search led to the recovery of items suspected to be parts of a human corpse,” Ayanlade says.
The driver, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, is arrested as investigations begin to determine the origin and intended use of the items.
Police say the investigation extends beyond Oyo State, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend all those connected to the case.
In a related incident, police also confirmed a suspected murder at a construction site in the Iyana-Ajia area of Ibadan.
According to police, a dispute between two casual workers escalates when one allegedly stabs the other with a broken bottle, inflicting fatal injuries.
The suspect is arrested, the victim’s body deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue, and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section.
Police urge residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and report emergencies through official hotlines.
