ABUJA, Nigeria – The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) announces swift corrective measures to address persistent delays affecting school infrastructure projects in Niger State.
The commission discloses this in a statement on Wednesday following an implementation-focused meeting with key stakeholders in Abuja.
According to UBEC, discussions identify delayed fund utilisation, contract reviews, inflationary pressures and documentation gaps as major obstacles slowing project delivery across the state.
Participants review the progress of ongoing interventions, including seven mega effective schools, and agree on urgent steps to accelerate execution.
“Going forward, our priority is clear: strengthening existing school infrastructure to meet minimum standards and deliver safe, functional and conducive learning environments,” the statement reads.
UBEC confirms the immediate establishment of a joint review committee to reassess project timelines and funding frameworks. It also plans to deploy technical teams for on-the-ground assessments while fast-tracking the implementation of the 2024–2025 action plan.
The commission reiterates its commitment to accountability and results-driven collaboration with state governments and partners. “UBEC remains committed to ensuring that every intervention delivers value for Nigerian children,” the statement adds.
Education analysts say the renewed push could improve learning conditions if agreed actions are implemented without bureaucratic delays.
UBEC assures stakeholders that enhanced oversight mechanisms will prevent future setbacks while supporting states to overcome economic and administrative constraints.
