Engineers repairing damaged pipeline at Birnin Kebbi waterworks
KEBBI, Nigeria – The Kebbi State Government intensifies emergency repairs at the Birnin Kebbi waterworks following a major pipeline burst, assuring residents that water supply will be restored within one week.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida, gave the assurance on Thursday while inspecting ongoing repair works at the facility. “We have seen remarkable progress, and we will remain on ground until full restoration is achieved,” Bala-Tafida says.
He explains that Governor Nasir Idris constituted a special task force involving senior officials, engineers, security agencies and the Water Board to fast-track repairs.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Alhaji Isah Arzika, says engineers detect the burst shortly after lifting operations, forcing an emergency shutdown to prevent further damage. “The machines were submerged, but swift action ensured successful evacuation by late evening,” Arzika says, adding that the intake machines are now being tried and tested.
General Manager of the Kebbi State Water Board, Alhaji Zayyanu Shehu, assures residents that supply will resume fully within a week.
The disruption has affected thousands of residents, prompting calls for patience as repairs continue.
