ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has partnered with the World Bank’s Identification for Development (ID4D) initiative to spotlight the transformative role of digital identity at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80).
In a statement on Friday, NIMC confirmed that the high-level dialogue, themed “Cooperation by Design: The Power of Identity to Unlock Development,” will be held on 24 September 2025 at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The Commission explained that the event will bring together global leaders, policymakers, and development partners to explore how collaboration can drive secure, inclusive, and trusted digital identity systems capable of accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“An inclusive digital identity system is a critical enabler of social and economic transformation,” NIMC noted, adding that the partnership underscores Nigeria’s determination to strengthen digital public infrastructure that leaves no citizen behind.
The World Bank’s ID4D initiative stressed that the event would highlight how governments, private sector players, and international organisations can jointly design interoperable and people-centred systems.
