GOMBE, Nigeria – A speeding trailer crashes into a passenger bus on the Kaltungo–Cham Road in Gombe State, killing nine people and injuring five others, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirms.
The crash occurred at about 8:33 a.m. in Kaluwa community, involving a trailer and a Sharon bus carrying 18 passengers. Gombe State FRSC Sector Commander Samson Kaura says the trailer, descending a slope at high speed, rams into the bus from behind, forcing it to somersault.
“Preliminary investigations point to excessive speed and brake failure,” Kaura says. Emergency responders rush the injured to General Hospital, Kaltungo, while the bodies of the deceased are deposited at the hospital mortuary. Four passengers escape unhurt.
Kaura warns motorists against speeding, especially on sloping roads, stressing that preventable negligence continues to cost lives. “Vehicles must be driven at manageable speeds, and proper inspection is essential before every journey,” he says, urging extra caution during the festive period.
