Katsina Governor, Dikko Radda
KATSINA, Nigeria – Katsina State Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has approved the establishment of five new secondary schools, a major step aimed at expanding access to education and addressing the rising population of school-age children across the state.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, following Radda’s engagement tour to Batsari, where he met community stakeholders and traditional rulers.
The governor said the decision followed an appeal by the District Head of Wagini, Alhaji Dikko Muazu, who stressed the need for additional learning centres to close educational gaps in rural communities.
“No child in Katsina should be denied education simply because they were born in a rural community,” Radda said, adding that mobilisation funds would be released immediately to commence construction.
During the visit, the governor also flagged off a new road project awarded by the Batsari Local Government Council and laid the foundation for the Dr. Dikko Radda Cassava Gari Processing Centre, an initiative of the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency.
He noted that Batsari remains a major cassava-producing area, and the modern processing facility would boost local income, reduce post-harvest losses and create employment opportunities.
“Our vision is to transform local economies by supporting what communities already do best,” the governor stated.
Traditional leader Alhaji Dikko Muazu appealed for more government assistance for families returning after years of displacement, stressing the need to rebuild schools, clinics and public infrastructure.
Governor Radda reaffirmed his commitment to statewide improvements in education, assuring residents that work on the newly approved secondary schools will begin immediately.
Chairman of Batsari Local Government, Alhaji Mannir Muazu, highlighted ongoing empowerment efforts, including support for 300 dry-season farmers using fertilizer from the local blending plant.
