Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa (rtd)
ABUJA, Nigeria – General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), former Chief of Defence Staff, was on Thursday sworn in as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, marking a significant transition in the country’s security leadership amid rising threats from terrorism, banditry and kidnappings.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administered the oath at the State House, Abuja, welcoming Musa, who was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday after a rigorous five-hour screening. Musa was nominated on Tuesday to replace Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned from the cabinet.
In his remarks, the 58-year-old retired general pledged a renewed drive to strengthen Nigeria’s defence systems. “I pledge my unwavering commitment to restoring peace and bolstering the nation’s defence architecture,” he said, assuring Nigerians of decisive action against escalating security challenges.
Musa’s appointment comes at a time when the federal government is re-evaluating defence strategies and intensifying joint operations across conflict-prone regions.
