ABUJA, Nigeria – Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday attacked an advance security team attached to the Office of the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, near the Sam Mbakwe Airport in Imo State.
The incident occurred in the early hours between Umuowa and Ihite Junction as the three-man team travelled ahead of the governor’s scheduled movement.
In a statement, the Abia State Government confirmed that the governor’s convoy was not involved in the attack and that no casualty was recorded. It said the affected officials escaped unharmed and no property was damaged.
The government added that security agencies have been notified and investigations are under way to identify and apprehend the attackers.
It assured residents and travellers that adequate security measures have been strengthened to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of public officials and road users.
The state government urged the public to remain calm, noting that updates would be provided as more details emerge.
