FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike
ABUJA, Nigeria – Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, confirms that buses and taxis for the long-idle Mabushi, Kugbo, and Central Business District (CBD) Bus Terminals will arrive soon, signalling the long-awaited take-off of operations across Abuja.
The announcement follows an Africa Health Report (AHR) investigation revealing that the newly commissioned terminals remain locked and unused months after completion.
During an inspection of the CBD Terminal, Wike says the administration is partnering with private operators but will initially deploy government-owned vehicles.
“The government must make the first move. Once all buses are in Abuja colours, commuters can identify official vehicles. This is key to ending the one-chance crime,” he states.
Wike expresses satisfaction with construction quality at the CBD Terminal, saying it surpasses the already completed Kugbo and Mabushi sites. He adds that the project will be ready by year-end.
During a visit to the Pai–Gomani Road, however, the minister blasts the contractor over slow progress and unauthorised cost variations.
“Any variation of such magnitude must go through the President and the Federal Executive Council. Anyone bypassing the procedure will face sanctions,” he warns.
Wike reaffirms commitment to rural development under the Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting progress on the Apo-Karshi and Kubwa–Bwari roads.
