ABUJA, Nigeria – The Federal Ministry of Education launches a major overhaul of its public communication system as a three-day Communication Strategy Work Plan Implementation Workshop opens in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The initiative aims to modernise outreach, strengthen public trust, and ensure rapid, accurate information flow across Nigeria’s education sector.
Speaking at the opening session, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Boriowo Folasade, says effective communication is essential for transparency and credibility. “We must embrace proactive, transparent, and accurate communication to counter misinformation and build public trust,” she tells participants.
The workshop brings together communication officers from the ministry’s headquarters, agencies, and field offices. Attendees review existing information channels, assess gaps in public messaging, and refine crisis-response systems. Facilitators also guide participants through audience-targeting techniques designed to ensure that key messages reach communities quickly and consistently.
A major highlight is the validation of the ministry’s Public Engagement Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), a new framework aimed at standardising how officials release information, handle public enquiries, and coordinate inter-departmental messaging.
Sessions further explore expanding digital communication, including social-media-led awareness campaigns and data-driven approaches for public engagement. Officials commit to strengthening collaboration across departments to create a unified communication architecture.
At the close of Thursday’s activities, officers pledge immediate adoption of the upgraded strategy. The ministry says the reforms will help consolidate public confidence and accelerate Nigeria’s education-sector transformation agenda.
