GUSAU, Nigeria – The Zamfara State Government has approved the recruitment of 500 qualified teachers as part of a renewed drive to strengthen the education sector after years of decline.
The recruitment exercise, conducted by the Zamfara State Committee for Teacher Recruitment and Deployment (TRD), screened over 11,000 applicants. Officials described the process as transparent, competitive, and strictly merit based.
According to a statement by Governor Dauda Lawal’s spokesperson, Bala Idris on Saturday, the successful candidates will receive deployment letters and be posted to public schools across the state, with priority given to rural and hard-to-reach areas where teacher shortages are most severe.
A senior education official, speaking on background, said the new hires are expected to “inject fresh energy into the system” and help reverse the learning crisis.
“We went through every application carefully to ensure only qualified teachers made the list,” the official said. “This is the first large-scale recruitment in years, and expectations are very high.”
Governor Lawal emphasised the administration’s commitment to restoring quality learning.
“Education is the key — and Zamfara is unlocking it,” he said.
