SOKOTO, Nigeria – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society has delivered relief materials to residents displaced by recent flooding in Ramin Kura IDP Camp, Sokoto South Local Government Area.
The distribution exercise, which formed part of the Red Cross Flood Risk Reduction and Recovery Project supported by the Italian Government, provided displaced families with non-food relief items including bedding materials, hygiene essentials and temporary shelter supplies.
NEMA on Sunday said its field officers supervised the operation to ensure fairness and transparency, adding that the partnership reflects ongoing efforts to reduce hardship among vulnerable groups affected by seasonal flooding in Sokoto and surrounding communities.
“This collaboration marks another milestone in restoring hope and dignity to affected households,” the agency stated.
Flooding triggered by prolonged heavy rainfall has forced several families to abandon their homes across the Sokoto metropolis.
The agency had earlier conducted needs assessments in Binji and Wamako to determine the extent of damage and humanitarian requirements.
NEMA further reaffirmed its commitment to working with national and international humanitarian organisations to support displaced populations and strengthen long-term disaster resilience.
