GUSAU, Nigeria – The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has donated medical equipment worth ₦300 million to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gusau, to enhance service delivery and patient care.
The Public Relations Officer, FMC Gusau, Naziru Tukur, confirmed the donation in a statement on Friday.
The supply, executed by Connaught International Services Ltd, was officially presented by NPHCDA’s representative, Shehu Ibrahim.
Mr Ibrahim said the intervention targets critical departments — Labour Room, Theatre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the Maternity Laboratory — to strengthen maternal and neonatal services.
Items supplied include LED theatre lights, operating tables, incubators, ventilators, automated haematology analysers, foetal monitors, diathermy machines, phototherapy lamps and other essential laboratory and clinical tools.
FMC Medical Director, Dr Bello Mohammed, lauded NPHCDA’s gesture, describing it as timely amid rising patient influx caused by insecurity in the region.
“This support comes when our centre is under pressure from increasing admissions,” he said. “We are grateful and will ensure judicious use of the equipment to improve healthcare outcomes.”
The Head of Clinical Services, Dr Umar Abdullahi, credited the progress to Dr Mohammed’s proactive leadership, noting that the hospital’s transformation aligns with its planned upgrade to a teaching hospital.
He added that the intervention marked another milestone in FMC Gusau’s ongoing journey towards medical excellence and institutional growth.
