KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government has concluded the fourth cycle of its Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign, reaching every one of the state’s 44 local government areas.
The exercise, conducted between October 19 and 22, 2025, was coordinated by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the State Primary Health Care Management Board and development partners.
Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, said in a statement on Wednesday that the campaign targeted children aged three to 59 months through house-to-house visits. Health workers administered preventive malaria drugs while sensitising residents on hygiene and mosquito control.
“The success of this campaign reflects the dedication and commitment of health workers at all levels,” the statement said. “Their efforts ensured that no community was left behind.”
Officials noted that the conclusion of the fourth round coincided with the end of the rainy season, when mosquito breeding slows. Residents were advised to continue using insecticide-treated nets and to clear stagnant water to reduce mosquito breeding.
The ministry expressed gratitude to healthcare workers, development partners, and communities for their cooperation, reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustaining quality health programmes aimed at protecting lives and improving public well-being.
Kano’s SMC campaign, which has covered millions of children since inception, remains one of Nigeria’s most comprehensive malaria prevention initiatives, significantly reducing infection rates across the state.
