MAKURDI, Nigeria – Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has constituted a new State Primary Health Care Board, appointing officials to strengthen healthcare administration and improve service delivery across the state.
The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement issued in Makurdi by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.
Dr Godfrey Tolough was appointed chairman of the board, while Dr Kelvin Kadev will serve as executive secretary. Other members include Chiangi Anongu, representing Zone A; Gabriel Ugber, representing Zone B; and Dr Obeka Ochim, representing Zone C.
The new board is expected to oversee the administration and coordination of primary healthcare services across Benue, where challenges such as inadequate medical personnel, limited access to essential medicines, poor infrastructure and gaps in basic healthcare provision continue to affect grassroots delivery.
Alia said the appointments were part of efforts to maintain an effective government structure and prevent vacant positions from disrupting public service delivery. “You must understand that your appointment underscores my administration’s commitment to maintaining an effective government structure and ensuring that vacant positions do not create gaps in the delivery of public services,” he said.
The governor congratulated the appointees and urged them to align their responsibilities with his administration’s vision and principles, stressing that the interests of the state must remain their priority. The appointments take immediate effect. The statement also disclosed that Alia had approved 23 appointments to fill vacant positions in his administration following the resignation of some former appointees.
