Troops Foil Zamfara Ambush, Rescue Two Herders in Sokoto

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have foiled a suspected terrorist ambush along the Anka–Guruzu Road in Zamfara State and rescued two abducted herders during a separate operation in Sokoto State, the military has said.

The troops also recovered 520 livestock allegedly abandoned by suspected attackers during the Sokoto operation, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the task force’s Media Information Officer, Captain Tamuno Sinivie.

The military said the Zamfara incident occurred on 28 October, when troops from Sector 2 came under a coordinated ambush by armed men positioned on both sides of the Anka–Guruzu Road.

The soldiers were conducting a fighting patrol following reports of terrorist activity in the area when the attack occurred, the statement said.

According to the military, the troops returned fire, forcing the attackers to retreat. The soldiers subsequently secured the road and restored movement for commuters. One soldier sustained a gunshot wound during the encounter and was evacuated for medical treatment. The military said he was in stable condition.
