KEBBI, Nigeria – The Kebbi State Executive Council has approved ₦4.05 billion for the rehabilitation of seven general hospitals across the state, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery.
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Junaidu Marshall, disclosed this after the council’s meeting on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi.
“The approval underscores the state’s determination to ensure every hospital is equipped to serve our people,” he said.
Benefiting hospitals include Kambaza, Suru, Kamba, Dirin-Daji, Kangiwa, Koko and Yauri. Marshall added that 16 hospitals have already been rehabilitated, while others in Argungu, Zuru, and Jega are ongoing.
Governor Nasir Idris, he said, has pledged to complete rehabilitation of all 30 general hospitals before the end of his tenure.
The council also approved ₦570 million for Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) to register 45,000 vulnerable persons across 225 wards.
“This will expand access to affordable healthcare,” Marshall noted.
Additionally, ₦407.5 million was approved to launch the State Drugs, Medical and Consumable Agency, ensuring affordable medicine supply.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abba Sani-Kalgo, announced the creation of a Kebbi State Bureau of Statistics, with ₦900 million as take-off grant and Prof Umar Usman appointed as Statistician-General.
“Reliable data is crucial for effective planning and monitoring development,” Sani-Kalgo said.
