ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is returning to Nigeria after a European working visit that included engagements with French President Emmanuel Macron, international business leaders and investors as his administration seeks to attract fresh investment into infrastructure and the economy.
Tinubu departed Paris on Tuesday after spending time in London and France and is expected to arrive in Lagos before proceeding to Abuja after his engagements in the commercial capital.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said Tinubu would use his Lagos stay to attend an Independence Day film premiere honouring the late Chief MKO Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu. “On Independence Day, the President will attend the premiere of a movie honouring Abiola, the winner of the June 1993 election, at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos,” Onanuga said.
During his stay in Paris, Tinubu held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and met business figures, including Vincent Bolloré and Nigerian businessman Femi Otedola.
The President also witnessed the signing of a memorandum between Ogun State and DP World for the development of the Gateway Deep Seaport and Blue Marine Economic Zone.
The proposed project is backed by a reported $7 billion investment and is expected to support infrastructure development and economic activity in Ogun State.
The European engagements focused partly on attracting foreign capital into Nigerian infrastructure and supporting investment opportunities.
Onanuga said Tinubu would also hold meetings with political leaders and associates during his stay in Lagos. “While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” he said.
The President is expected to proceed to Abuja after completing his Lagos engagements.
