KATSINA, Nigeria – Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has launched six new model schools across the state to provide free education for orphans and vulnerable children, enrolling 2,166 pupils.
Speaking during the launch of the Dan Amana Tested and Trusted Initiative at Nagogo Primary School, Katsina, the governor said six pupils were selected from each of the state’s 361 wards through merit-based examinations.
“Our vision is to give these children quality education so that, in the next two or three decades, they will grow to contribute meaningfully to Katsina State,” Radda said.
The initiative also provided pupils with uniforms, books and school bags. Radda added that the state is sponsoring students from poor families to study medicine in Egypt and artificial intelligence in China.
The Director General of the initiative, Alhaji Suleiman Kabir Barda, described the project as a lifeline for children who lost their parents or whose families cannot afford schooling. “Today’s launch is only the beginning; we will continue visiting schools regularly,” he said.
Community leaders, teachers and state officials attended the event, describing the programme as timely support for disadvantaged children.
