LAGOS, Nigeria – Motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been advised to expect traffic disruptions as the Federal Ministry of Works begins critical repairs on the Kara Bridge to improve road safety and infrastructure reliability.
The two-week project, scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 28 July, involves replacing the bridge’s expansion joint, reducing the four-lane carriageway to two lanes across a 1.5-kilometre stretch. In a statement issued on Monday, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation said the temporary lane reduction is necessary to provide a safe working environment for engineers carrying out the repairs.
“The project is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, July 28 for a period of two weeks. Consequently, motorists are advised to expect partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis during the repair period,” said Bolanle Ogunlola, Director of Public Affairs at the ministry. She urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, cooperate with traffic management officials and consider alternative routes where necessary.
The ministry warned that moderate congestion is likely around the Fatgbems area due to expected U-turns and diversions but noted that traffic towards Ibadan beyond the affected section should remain relatively smooth.
