JALINGO, Nigeria — Three hundred displaced households affected by recent violence in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State have received emergency relief materials through a joint intervention by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA).
The relief distribution took place on Sunday and targeted victims from Chanchangi, Yamma, Kufai Amadu, Mamie Market, Rubar and Sufa communities.
Representing NEMA Director-General Mrs Zubaida Umar, Malut Hussain expressed sympathy to the affected families and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting victims of conflicts and disasters across the country.
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the relief materials and embrace peaceful coexistence to help prevent further violence in their communities.
Representing the Secretary of TSEMA, Dr Echuseh Audu, the agency’s Director of Administration, Sani Maisukwati, described the intervention as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the hardship faced by displaced and vulnerable residents.
He commended the partnership between NEMA and the Taraba State Government, saying the collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to addressing humanitarian needs arising from insecurity.
The relief package included bags of rice and maize, cartons of spaghetti, vegetable oil, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, iodised salt, guinea brocade, wax prints and sleeping mats.
One of the beneficiaries, Veronica Iortom from Peva-Chanchangi, thanked the Federal Government and emergency agencies for the support, saying the assistance would help affected families recover from the recent attacks.
She, however, appealed for improved security to enable displaced residents to return safely to their homes and farmlands.
The intervention forms part of ongoing humanitarian efforts to provide emergency assistance to communities displaced by violence while supporting recovery and resettlement across Taraba state.
