MAKURDI, Nigeria – The Benue MACBAN chairman murder investigation has gathered momentum after the Benue State Police Command arrested seven additional suspects, bringing the total number of people in custody to 17 over the killing of the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Benue State chapter, Ardo Risku Mohammed, and another victim, Yakubu Isa
The command announced the arrests in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, saying the breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations, painstaking investigations and coordinated tactical deployments.
Mohammed and Isa were killed on July 1 while returning from a security meeting convened by the Divisional Police Officer in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State. Ten suspects had earlier been arrested in connection with the attack.
According to the police, the newly arrested suspects are Chief Morgan Ejaga, Chief Moses Anteyi, Chief John Ogli, Chief Yawuhu Adaji, Sylvester Ajonye, Aba Alexander Uloko and Fidelis Iduma.
“The arrests were made during intelligence-led operations as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of the MACBAN chairman and Yakubu Isa,” Edet said.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, Cletus Nwadiogbu, commended the investigating and tactical teams for their professionalism, noting that their sustained efforts continue to produce positive results.
“The Commissioner of Police appeals to members of the public to remain calm and continue to support the police and other security agencies with credible and timely information that will aid ongoing investigations. The command remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims and sustaining peace, law and order across Benue State,” the statement added.
