ABUJA, Nigeria – The NiMet AI partnership is set to strengthen climate research and digital agriculture after the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Cosmopolitan University agree to collaborate on artificial intelligence-driven climate innovation.
The proposed partnership follows a courtesy visit by Cosmopolitan University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Carl Adams, to NiMet Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, with the agency announcing the outcome on Tuesday.
The collaboration will focus on using artificial intelligence, meteorological science and digital technologies to improve climate resilience, agricultural productivity and scientific research.
Anosike says both institutions share a common vision of translating scientific discoveries into practical solutions that benefit communities.
He commends the university for embracing emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, to support climate adaptation and build resilient communities.
“The university is committed towards the development of the next generation of indigenous AI scientists and climate-smart innovations driven by satellite data and AI applications,” Adams says.
Both organisations agree to formalise the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding covering climate-smart agriculture, digital advisory services for smallholder farmers, aviation meteorology, staff exchange, artificial intelligence applications, data analytics and climate research.
The institutions also plan to leverage meteorological information to improve livelihoods and support sustainable development.
