KEBBI, Nigeria – Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (Northwest) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons during a military operation in the Sabarumawa area of Kebbi State.
The operation was carried out on June 27 following intelligence reports indicating that armed terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja.
According to the statement, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly deployed to the area and established a tactical ambush along the terrorists suspected route.
“The successful operation followed credible intelligence indicating that the terrorists were planning an attack on the Sabarumawa community,” the statement said.
As the suspects approached the ambush position, troops engaged them in a gun battle.
“The superior combat effectiveness of the troops forced the terrorists into disarray, with two of the terrorists neutralised, while the remaining members of the group fled into the surrounding forest,” Danja said.
The troops subsequently recovered two AK-47 rifles, magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle from the scene.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal groups operating across the North-West.
The military also urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence to support ongoing security operations.
