Elohor Aiboni
ABUJA, Nigeria – Global energy giant has appointed Elohor Aiboni as Executive Vice President and Country Chair for Nigeria, making her the first Nigerian to occupy the combined leadership position.
Aiboni succeeds Marno de Jong, who is leaving the company after a 34-year career to pursue other opportunities, according to a statement issued by Shell on Wednesday.
De Jong, who became Senior Vice President Nigeria in 2020 and later assumed the role of Executive Vice President and Country Chair, oversaw Shell’s operations across Nigeria and led several strategic investments during his tenure.
Shell said under his leadership, the flagship Bonga deepwater asset recorded strong operational performance and achieved production targets, while key projects such as the HI offshore gas development and Bonga North project advanced significantly.
Reflecting on his tenure, de Jong expressed appreciation for the support received from colleagues and stakeholders.
“I’m grateful for the support I have enjoyed since my time in Nigeria, which has enabled us to achieve progress on many fronts,” he said.
Aiboni brings more than 24 years of experience across Shell’s offshore, shallow-water and onshore operations, including international assignments in Kazakhstan and Brunei.
She previously served as Managing Director of the [Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), becoming the first woman to hold the position.
During her leadership of SNEPCo, the company’s Bonga deepwater field achieved the milestone production of one billion barrels of oil in 2023.
She later moved to Brunei in 2024, where she oversaw production, project delivery and asset performance.
Speaking on her appointment, Aiboni pledged to build on the progress achieved by her predecessor.
“I’m excited at the opportunity to continue contributing to the efficient delivery of Shell’s business in Nigeria and thereby power progress in a country we’ve been part of for more than 60 years,” she said.
