YOBE, Nigeria – Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Friday launched a food donation programme for vulnerable residents of Yobe State under the Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at improving the welfare of disadvantaged groups across the country.
In a statement by the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed, the First Lady—represented by Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, wife of the Vice President—said the outreach was part of a nationwide scheme to cushion hardship among the less privileged.
Mrs Tinubu explained that the Renewed Hope Initiative targets women in agriculture by providing training, start-up kits, and production resources to boost food security. The programme, she said, also extends to senior citizens and people with special needs, who will receive free medical support.
“Under this scheme, 200 people will receive support in each of the 36 states,” she said. “Our mission is to empower households, strengthen communities, and restore hope among our most vulnerable groups.”
Wife of the Yobe State Governor and State Coordinator of the initiative, Hajiya Hafsat Mai Mala Buni, praised Mrs Tinubu’s compassion and reaffirmed her husband’s administration’s commitment to women, children, and vulnerable citizens. She cited ongoing recovery programmes, skills training, and household support schemes, alongside the establishment of eight girls’ secondary schools to promote girl-child education.
Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his deputy, Idi Barde Gubana, assured that the state would continue to align with the Renewed Hope Initiative to improve the lives of vulnerable groups.
