LAGOS, Nigeria – Grenada has approved visa-free access for Nigerians in a move aimed at strengthening trade, tourism, education and investment ties between the Caribbean nation and Africa’s largest economy.
The announcement was made by Grenada’s Consul to Nigeria, Ambassador Abidemi Sonoiki, during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos on Thursday.
Sonoiki said Grenada had already approved visa-free entry for Nigerians and was awaiting reciprocal action from the Nigerian government.
“Grenada has approved free access for Nigerians, and we expect Nigeria to reciprocate the gesture,” he said.
The envoy disclosed plans to establish a direct air connection between Nigeria and Grenada within the next six months, describing improved connectivity as essential for economic growth and bilateral cooperation.
According to him, Grenada is positioning itself as a gateway to a Caribbean market of approximately 46 million people, while Nigeria remains a strategic entry point into Africa.
“We want Nigeria to become the African hub and Grenada the Caribbean hub for increased economic cooperation,” Sonoiki stated.
He highlighted investment opportunities in tourism, aviation, agriculture, healthcare, education, fintech, real estate, banking and maritime logistics.
While encouraging Nigerians to explore professional and business opportunities in Grenada, he stressed that success would depend on skills, qualifications and value creation.
“You must have something to offer,” he said.
