Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf
KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government orders the temporary closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The directive is announced in a statement issued Wednesday by the Ministry of Education’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Misbahu Yakasai.
According to the statement, boarding school students will begin the holiday from Saturday, May 23, while resumption is fixed for Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Day school students are expected to commence the Sallah break on Friday, May 22, with academic activities resuming on Monday, June 1.
The ministry urges parents and guardians to comply strictly with the approved holiday timetable.
“Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are advised to pick up their children on the approved closing date,” the statement says.
Commissioner for Education Ali Makoda wishes students, teachers and parents a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration and encourages residents to promote peace and discipline during the festive period.
Authorities say the temporary shutdown is intended to allow Muslim families to observe the annual religious celebration without disrupting the broader academic calendar.
