ABUJA, Nigeria – The Naija Drone Soccer League, (NDSL) launches Nigeria’s first-ever competitive drone soccer league for senior secondary school students in a major push to combine technology education with sports innovation.
The NDSL says the initiative is designed to equip students with practical skills in aerospace, robotics, aviation technology and engineering while promoting teamwork and strategic thinking.
In a statement issued Tuesday, NDSL Operations Manager, Mr. Alex Orkuma says the league will help prepare young Nigerians for careers in emerging technology sectors.
“Drone-soccer is more than a sport — it is a training ground for the future,” the statement says.
The programme introduces nationwide competitions involving drone-soccer kits, technical support, regional qualifiers and a national championship for participating schools.
Organisers say the initiative transforms classrooms into innovation hubs where students gain hands-on experience with drone technology and STEM-based learning.
“As the world rapidly shifts toward technology-driven economies, the NDSL provides Nigerian students with hands-on exposure to emerging technologies,” the organisation says.
The league will also provide teacher training and school capacity-building programmes while linking students to global opportunities in robotics and drone technology.
NDSL calls on secondary schools across Nigeria to register for the inaugural season, with early participants expected to receive priority support and national visibility.
The initiative comes as Nigeria intensifies efforts to expand STEM education and prepare young people for technology-driven industries and future digital economies.
