LAGOS, Nigeria – Thirty-eight worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, have been reunited with their families following what authorities described as a coordinated rescue operation involving federal and state agencies.
Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti Local Government Chairman, Prince Dada Sunday, said the operation succeeded through collaboration between President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The victims were formally handed over on Wednesday to Ekiti Local Government Chairman, Honourable Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, in Ilorin before their return to Eruku.
Awelewa praised the joint security effort, saying the rescue “shows what is possible when agencies work together,” and commended medical teams for stabilising the victims before their release.
The Owa of Eruku described the reunion as a moment of “profound relief,” thanking the federal and state governments for their intervention.
The council chairman also pledged to strengthen security across the 10 wards in Ekiti Local Government Area, stating, “We will leave no stone unturned in protecting the lives and property of our people.”
