YOBE, Nigeria – Yobe State secures a $5 million World Bank grant to install solar power in key health and educational facilities.
The project will deliver rooftop solar photovoltaic systems to six public institutions, aimed at improving electricity supply and service delivery.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport and Energy, Dr Mustapha Abba Geidam, says the initiative addresses persistent power shortages and high diesel costs.
“Unreliable electricity has affected healthcare and academic activities. This project will provide stable and cost-effective energy,” he states.
Beneficiaries include specialist hospitals in Potiskum, Buni-Yadi, Geidam and Nguru, alongside Umar Suleiman College of Education and Yobe State University.
A feasibility study has confirmed the suitability of the selected sites, with provisions for additional installations where required.
Geidam confirms the project documentation has been submitted for implementation, describing it as a major step towards sustainable energy solutions in public institutions.
