Yobe Governor, Mai Mala Buni
YOBE, Nigeria – The Yobe State Government has employed 948 new teachers to strengthen the state’s basic education system and close existing manpower gaps across public schools.
Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umaru Hassan Babayo, disclosed this after meeting Governor Mai Mala Buni in Damaturu on Sunday.
“The exercise aims to fill critical teaching vacancies, many of which have been occupied by volunteers for years,” Babayo said. “Workshops are being organised to enhance their classroom delivery skills.”
In a statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press to the Governor, Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving education through continuous teacher recruitment, training, and infrastructure investment.
“The board should prioritise teacher training and retraining,” Governor Buni said. “The government will keep supporting SUBEB to ensure quality education delivery at the grassroots.”
Babayo also urged the new teachers to justify the confidence placed in them, assuring that the board will intensify monitoring for accountability.
