ABUJA, Nigeria – The World Bank approves a $500 million credit facility to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector and support smallholder farmers.
The funding backs the AGROW project, aimed at improving productivity, food security, and job creation.
Country Director, Mathew Verghis, describes the initiative as transformative.
“AGROW will empower farmers and unlock private sector growth,” he says.
The programme targets key crops, enhances market access, and promotes climate-resilient farming practices.
Officials say up to one million farmers could benefit, with additional private investment expected to boost the sector.
