ABUJA, Nigeria – The United States government issues a security alert warning American citizens in Nigeria of credible terrorist threats targeting US diplomatic facilities and affiliated schools across the country.
The US Mission in Nigeria publishes the alert Monday, urging Americans to exercise heightened vigilance around the US Embassy in Abuja, the Consulate General in Lagos, and schools with American affiliations.
“Increasing awareness of your surroundings, avoiding predictable routines and reviewing security precautions with your family can help reduce your risk,” the advisory states.
US authorities advise citizens to vary travel routes and schedules when visiting diplomatic facilities and maintain a low public profile.
American nationals in Nigeria are also urged to keep mobile phones charged, review personal security plans regularly and stay updated with official safety notifications.
The warning comes amid heightened global tensions following a US-Israeli military campaign against Iran, which began on 28 February.
Diplomatic operations at the US Embassy in Abuja have already been scaled back since the conflict began, with visa appointments suspended due to security concerns.
Officials fear supporters of Iran’s leadership could stage protests or attacks following the reported killing of the country’s former Supreme Leader in a joint US–Israeli strike.
Security analysts say US installations worldwide have been placed on heightened alert as geopolitical tensions escalate and retaliatory threats increase.
